An economic and political powerhouse since the 12th century AD, Milan needs no introduction. One of the world’s four fashion capitals, the capital of Lombardy is the industrial and financial heart of Italy and the richest non-capital city in the European Union. The city is more famous for ‘retail therapy’ than holistic well-being, but traWell’s curated Milanese itinerary will give you a taste of Milan, of Italian cuisine and of traWell’s signature therapies, of course.
Malpensa (MXP), Linate (LIN) or Orio al Serio (BGY) airport
3 Days
All guests must be over 18.
Fly into Malpensa (MXP), Linate (LIN) or Orio al Serio (BGY) airport, where your concierge will meet you off the plane and arrange your transfer to Milan.
Stay in: Washington 91 from Italianway.
As you settle into your home away from home, your concierge will talk you through your itinerary for the next few days over a refreshing cup of traWell herbal tea.
Enjoy a delightful Lombardian dinner on the rooftop terrace at El Ganassin, a 10-minute walk from your accommodation.
Start your day with a nutritious smoothie prepared by your traWell concierge, as they talk you through traWell’s signature light and sound therapies. Then it’s a short trip by rented bicycle or on public transport to Santa Maria delle Grazie, burial site to the famous Sforza family and home of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous mural ‘The Last Supper’ (painted in 1495-98), which is on display in the refectory. The church itself combines a Gothic nave with a Renaissance apse and dome.
After lunch at Tommasi in the nearby Piazza Italia, your concierge will lead you (again, via rented bicycle or public transport) to Milan Cathedral, the largest church in Italy. Skip the queue with pre-purchased tickets. The cathedral’s roof offers an unrivalled view of openwork pinnacles and spires set upon delicate flying buttresses. The nave, at 45 metres high, is the highest Gothic vault in Italy.
You can then have the afternoon to yourself browsing Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Italy’s oldest active shopping gallery, or enjoy a decadent pampering session in Armani/Spa in the Armani Hotel Milano. Either way, our concierge will be happy to recommend options for dinner. traWell’s favourites are Duomo Restaurant, which overlooks the cathedral, and Piazza del Duomo, or the Armani Restaurant if you’ve chosen the spa route.
Savour a satisfying smoothie as your concierge talks you through Dr Peter Gruenevald’s stress-buster course and demonstrates the power of aromatherapy using traWell’s signature hamper.
After breakfast, visit Castle Sforzesco on the northwest edge of the city. The medieval architecture castle hosts museums on various subjects: there’s bound to be something in the exhibits to delight and enthrall you. Behind the castle is Parco Sempione, whose green space is a great place for a low-impact walking circuit or simply a spot of meditation.
Your concierge will return you to Milan Central Station or your airport of choice for your flight home.
